EU-PLF

www.eu-plf.eu

Value creation through Precision Livestock Farming. Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) could assist livestock producers through automated, continuous monitoring of the animals. The observation data can be translated into key indicators on animal welfare, animal health, productivity and environmental impact. A number of PLF tools have been developed at laboratory levels and as prototypes.

The overall objective of the EU-PLF project is to bring some of those tools from the lab to the farm. The process of making those tools operational for the end-user in dairy, pig and poultry farms will be studied in details and a generic procedure (Blueprint) will be derived that will help people in the future to develop Precision Livestock Farming concepts into operational tools. This blueprint represents a manual for farmers and high tech SME's that are keen to develop new PLF tools. It will be a reference tool offering pragmatic guidance on how Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) systems can be applied on farm level in order to create value for the farmer and other stakeholders.

Inkubik

Two innovative engineers contacted Syntesa in early 2012 to market their inventions. Syntesa realised quickly the great potential of the invention portfolio of the engineers. Over the course of a year, Syntesa helped found INKUBIK (in)3 and provides the commercial management of the company. A first technology has been sold to a market leader and negotiations for a second technology are on its way.

FoodReg

www.foodreg.com

FoodReg is a specialist food traceability solution provider. FoodReg operates globally from its two offices in Barcelona (Spain) and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). Its innovative solution has attracted large companies like Sime Darby, KFC, Bayer and Unilever.

"If you want to be trusted, be sure you always tell the truth"

Brand owners make promises to their customers – about the origins of a product, that it complies with quality and safety standards, that it was produced sustainably...

FoodReg provides computerized systems that allow brand owners to gather the proof to back up their claims.

We started in the food business, and we have ten years of experience providing food traceability solutions across the world. That has taught us how to adapt and deal with the most challenging traceability tasks. We now also apply this experience beyond the food industry.

We provide traceability of products and processes. Whatever you want to know, FoodReg can trace it.

For certain industries FoodReg has developed standard 'solution packages' - see the sidebar menu - although these are normally customized to a specific customer requirement. In other cases, we can create new systems from scratch - although we build these on top of our existing system platform, so the IT development work is usually fast.

WhiteFishMall

www.whitefishmall.com

Currently Syntesa is active in a Nordic project called WhiteFishMall. Partners participating in this project come from the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Norway and Canada.
The main goal is to build a branding platform for whitefish from the North Atlantic that differentiates in terms of sustainable production and superior consumer benefits
Also demonstrate how a Living Lab can be established in the marine sector, dealing with a specific innovation challenge, where the solution is co-created, explored, demonstrated and evaluated with a user-centric approach in real-world environments.
This will allow users along the whole whitefish value chain to influence the innovation process with the intention to increase the product success rate.
WhiteFishMall is a three year research and development project funded by Nordic Innovation and the Fisheries Research Fund, which aims to build a branding platform for whitefish from the North Atlantic that facilitates market differentiation in terms of sustainability and superior consumer benefits.

Benthis

www.benthis.eu

BENTHIS studies the impacts of fishing on benthic ecosystems and will provide the science base to assess the impact of current fishing practices. We will study the vulnerability of different benthic ecosystems in European waters and analyze the physical impact of the current fishing practices on benthic organisms and geo-chemical processes.

In collaboration with the fishing industry, we will study innovative fishing technology and develop management scenarios to mitigate the adverse impacts. BENTHIS will inform managers about the benthic habitats that are impacted most and about the fishing gears that have the biggest impact and provide information on options to mitigate the adverse impacts.

Data Quality System

www.dq.fo

"Without observations there is no science" (Niels Bohr). Sufficient, manageable and high quality observations are the essential prerequisites to the most effective initiatives based on rational decision making. Meteorological and oceanographic (met-ocean) observations are among the most critical for environmental issues, climate issues, construction design issues, fishery issues etc.

Data Quality Systems uses the term "data qualification" to describe the process required to transform raw data to meet the specified data quality criteria. This process involves people with tasks ranging from project specification, observation specification, providing instruments, observation management, observation engineering, and storage management to data usage.

Data Quality Systems has one mission: Making Met-Ocean data useful.

DQS aims at resolving this mission by developing concepts, software tools and related services required by any person in any role relevant to the resulting quality of an observed met-ocean data set.

Any one single person or organization does not accomplish this mission. Data Quality Systems acknowledges this fact and is committed to establish and develop the relations to other organizations relevant to the resulting quality of an observed met-ocean data set.

OceanRainForest

www.oceanrainforest.com

Ocean Rainforest has developed a concept for macro algae cultivation in open oceans. In March 2010 the installation was deployed for a structural test at a 50 meters depth aquaculture test site exposed to northern waves & wind at Funningur, Faroe Islands.  The next phase in the development is the “cultivation test” combined with and upscale of the seed line deployed. This will make Ocean Rainforest the largest macro algae cultivation activity in Europe and North America and the largest in the world on open sea environments with >50 water depth.

MacroBioTech

MacroBioTech Presentation

MacroBioTech is a NORA funded research project that aims to deliver a viable means for the commercial cultivation
of marine biomass in an open ocean environment. The two year project uses the Macro Algae Cultivation Rig (MACR) developed by Ocean Rainforest.

UN Escap

www.unescap.org

The United Nations' Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) has contracted Syntesa partner Dr Heiner Lehr as a consultant on paperless agro-trade facilitation. Heiner is a member of the UNNExT network of experts on paperless trade in Asia and the Pacific. The project will hold its first workshop in Beijing on September 12th 2013 in Beijing. Later in the month, Heiner will train government officials on e-traceability in New Delhi (24-25th September 2013).

By end of the year a guide for paperless agro-trade facilitation will be produced. This guide will form part of the guidelines published by UN ESCAP as part of the Single Window Implementation Toolkit.

Jobmatch Faroes

www.jobmatch.fo

The goal of Jobmatch Faroes is for the Faroese business world and public institutions to create and maintain relations with Faroese students abroad and home. These efforts are made in order to secure a continuing growth and development of the Faroese society.

The aim is to match the need of the business world and public institutions with the skills and knowledge of Faroese students. Thus, the idea is to organize a jobmatch convention, where Faroese businesses and public institutions have the possibility to market themselves towards talented students.

Moreover, the goal is to create an interest among Faroese students abroad to apply for jobs, internships, and projects assignments with these businesses and public institutions.

Jobmatch was held for the first time in 2008 and, with the exception of 2009, it has been held annually.
